Today, I’ll cover some items you should never wear on a date. I was inspired by the video I published a few weeks ago about not wearing certain items to work.
In that video, I delve into the difference between getting dressed in a professional environment, going out on a date, and trying to attract somebody. You don’t want to dress super sexy at work to garner respect and opportunities, but today’s video is about sex appeal.
Do NOT wear these on dates
- Too many accessories. You shouldn’t wear too many accessories.
- Boring accessories. Be more playful with golds, silvers, and mixed metals than at work. Experiment and express your individual style on dates, whereas, with work, you need to be more subdued. When going out on a date, you can be more playful.
- Tech watch. Never wear a tech watch. It’s not stylish and distracting.
- Open-toe shoes are a deal breaker because no woman wants to look down and see your nasty feet.
- Dirty athletic sneakers. Don’t wear athletic sneakers on a date either unless you’ve been dating for a while or if you’re going on an active date, like going to a park or walking a dog. If you wear sneakers, make sure they’re clean. I recommend white or brown minimal leather sneakers or elevated sneakers for dates. I also would avoid sneakers at night. For a nighttime date, opt for a loafer or double monk-strap shoes. You could also do Chelsea boots or checkers. Boots are an excellent date option but choose a more elevated dress pair. Check out my examples in the video.
- Little boy polo shirts. Avoid patterns, company logos, or excessive branding. Collars & Co polos are perfect for work with a bit of shine, stretch, and the ability to look great dressed up or down. You can even wear these under a suit. For a date, I would look for a Collars & Co polo in a cotton and silk blend that doesn’t have buttons. These types of polos are too stylized and sexy for work. Check out my video for an example. I recommend wearing black or dark monochromatic outfits to make you look super sexy, taller, and more muscular.
- Graphic t-shirts. Don’t even think about wearing these on a date. They’re not sexy.
- Worn-out t-shirts. If your shirt is worn out or has pit stains, you should not wear it.
- Basic pocket t-shirt. Dress to impress with a high-quality t-shirt that’s more sexy and refined.
- Not being bold or flashy. Play it up when you’re going out on a date or to a party. Be big and daring, and wear a playful, fun suit with a pattern. You could even go for a double-breasted suit. Turn your suit into a hybrid dressy casual by wearing a simple t-shirt underneath and throwing on a pair of loafers or Chelsea boots. Dress it down even more with minimal sneakers or a turtleneck underneath. You could even wear a tank top underneath to look crazy sexy.
- Skinny jeans. You do not want to wear super tight jeans, no matter what the color. Your denim needs a bit of looseness, but you don’t want it to be too big and baggy.
- Distressed denim. Any jeans with many whiskering, tears, or pulls are not a good look. If the pant leg is frayed or has nastiness for walking on it, upgrade your denim. A dark wash is perfect for a date or evening; you could even wear them during the daytime. A medium wash is a more casual option that should be worn during the daytime.
- Big and baggy pants. Whether your pants are denim, chinos, or slacks, you don’t want them to be too big and baggy. Wear items that fit your body.
- Shorts. Avoid shorts for a date. It may be okay if it’s summertime in the middle of the day when it’s hot outside, but generally speaking, avoid shorts. If you wear them, ensure they’re not too baggy or short. Go for a mid-length about 2 to 3 inches above your knee. You do not want them too long or low, either. Your legs will look super short.
- Camo. Do not wear camo when going out on a date. It’s a more casual option.
- Hats. It’s low-class to wear a hat to a restaurant.
- Hoodies. These will make you look low-classy and are not appropriate on a date. They’re way too casual.
- Work dress shirts. Dress shirts untucked look ridiculous and really bad. Shirts that are worn untucked are built to be worn untucked. There’s a company called Untuck It that makes dress shirts shorter. Otherwise, dress shirts left untouched look big, blousy, and baggy.
- Puddling pants. If your pants are puddling at your ankle, avoid them. Tailor your clothing so that you look your best.
- Not showing skin. You want skin to win. Unbutton three buttons, but if you want to go for two, that’s a minimum.
- Not exposing forearms and triceps. Cuff sleeves to expose your forearm. If you’re wearing short sleeves, expose your triceps. Also, short sleeves should not cover your entire upper arm because your arms will look small. Your sleeves should not be super big and baggy either.
- Fun socks and ties. These are a deal-breaker. You will look dorky
- Big and bold patterns. If you’re going to be wearing patterns, they should be small.
- Bright colors. Don’t go bold in terms of colors. Opt for darker shades, white, or off-white. Navy blue is sexy.
- Work chinos. These pants look terrible. Go with pants with a bit of stretch that are flat front with no cuffs. Light blue, forest green, four white are a bit more playful for a date and definitely sexier than tan. They’re brighter and fresher.
