Can you age backward or in reverse? Can you undo the damage created from earlier years to look and feel younger as you get older? The answer is yes, and I will share those ways to reverse the aging process.
Keep in mind the two ages: biological and chronological. Chronological is how long you’ve been alive, and biological is how old your body is. The good news is that you can often be younger than your chronological age. Conversely, you can also be much older biologically than you are chronologically.
How to reduce your biological age
- Prioritize sleep. Sleeping is your body’s way of repairing itself at a cellular level. That’s why you need a moisturizer at night. Muscles also repair at night during sleep. Sleep improves cognition and helps you remember and recall. Sleep will also boost your immune system.
- Maintain proper hormone levels. Testosterone is critical for you to look and feel amazing. As men age, testosterone drops at about 1% per year. Keep your testosterone levels up by adjusting your lifestyle to facilitate proper hormone regulation and production. Get a test to see your level and then boost it naturally. Improve your sleep, increase your exercise, and take supplements such as vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, and L-carnitine. Strength training is also critical for increasing testosterone. You should have a blood panel done every year to make sure all levels are in line.
- Maintain muscle mass. Either maintain or gain muscle mass because as we age, we lose muscle. It’s part of the process, but if you want to reverse that, workout with heavy weights. Exercising also helps to improve brain function and cognitive thinking. It reduces chronic inflammation and helps reduce stress. BONUS: If you’re under chronic stress, you will age prematurely. You won’t sleep well, you’re more apt to eat crappy food, cortisone levels increase, and weight will be gained. Meditate, sleep well, engage in yoga, or find another way to live less stressfully.
- Health conscious diet. Eat a heart-healthy diet filled with whole grains, good vegetables, fibrous carbohydrates, lean proteins, and good fats. Omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 are also critical. Ensure your LDL cholesterol is managed because if it rises, your arteries can clog, potentially increasing your risk of a cardiac event. Reduce or eliminate alcohol consumption because it also raises LDL and contributes to other bad effects on the body. Stop smoking completely because it will make you look like crap, yellow your teeth, and make you look old. Eating healthy will help to eliminate man boobs and love handles, which also make you age faster.
- Stimulate your brain. Whether or not it’s through crossword puzzles, working, reading, or doing arithmetic activities, make your brain work. Don’t contribute to mental decline by not working your brain. Consume healthy content and information rather than feeding your brain crap and giving it dopamine hits.
- Wear sunscreen. Eighty percent of skin aging is due to UV rays. Sure, the sun provides vitamin D, but you should wear sunscreen daily because skin cancer is no joke. No matter your skin tone, you need to protect yourself. Start taking care of your skin as soon as possible. Start now. Tiege Hanley has all you need to get started with their Level One routine.
