Expressing my personal thanks to you

My mom always makes everyone at the Thanksgiving dinner table to say what we’re thankful for. So, I want to do that with you! I want to let you know that I’m grateful for you and for listening to me throughout the years. If it wasn’t for you, life would not be the same. And I am a different person for knowing you. I want you to know how incredibly thankful I am that you are a part of my life, and it means the world to me.

For those outside of the United States, we celebrate something called Thanksgiving. It’s a national holiday celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November. Sometimes, it’s referred to as American Thanksgiving outside of the United States to distinguish it from the Canadian holiday of the same name. It originated as a day of thanks with a harvest festival and a theme revolving around gratitude and celebrations.

Typically, dinner consists of turkey, potatoes, vegetables such as squash, corn, green beans, and pumpkin pie. Other Thanksgiving traditions and customs include doing charitable activities, attending religious services, and watching the Thanksgiving Day parade & NFL football games. Thanksgiving is the beginning of the holiday season, and following it is Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year in the United States.

The next thing I want to address is that we all worked too hard throughout the year taking care of ourselves. We exercise and watch what we eat. As you know, fitness is what I’m passionate about as well. But during the holiday season, sometimes people lose their minds and destroy their diets. That destruction starts with Thanksgiving and then proceeds throughout December into the New Year — people tend to go nuts and sabotage their hard work. I want to say, chill out.

One of the strategies I employ during the holiday season is to avoid taking leftovers home. If it’s in my house, I will eat it. I have terrible willpower, but if it’s not in my house, I can maintain my diet and not have to worry about my weight. My weight will stay in check because if I don’t watch what I eat and I don’t exercise, my weight will go up. I’ve been as heavy as 180 lb. And during the holiday season, 1 lb can lead to 2 lb, which can lead to 5 lb and even 10 lb. Then, all of a sudden, New Year’s will hit, and there’s an issue that you have to deal with.

Stay away from the kitchen with all the holiday parties and people bringing in treats and cookies. All bets are off if you go into the kitchen hungry or famished. I end up going in full force. There will be nothing left but crumbs. So make sure to prior plan. You don’t want to become a pork chop.

When January arrives, the gyms will be crazy packed because everyone’s trying to work off the holiday bulge that they packed on. I assume if you follow me, you are reasonably into working out, taking care of yourself, and doing the work. I don’t want you to sabotage all of that hard work. Stand firm against all of that tempting food, gentlemen!

At Thanksgiving and every day — look up and around the room. There is at least one person that you can count on if you need something — anything. There are people in the room that you depend on and have depended on, and there are people who depend on you. Give thanks to these people. Don’t miss this opportunity to give thanks to those who can hear it and be touched by your gratitude because tomorrow that person may not be here.
