How to have amazing hair — no matter the style
Always have amazing hair. It doesn’t matter which hairstyle you select for your face shape if your hair is messed up.
- You need to upgrade the quality of your products for healthier hair that looks and feels better.
- Condition your hair when you use shampoo to smooth the cuticle and shaft.
- Choose the right hair product for your style. Hair products do different things, so ask your barber or stylist if you’re unsure.
- Ditch your crappy hair dryer for a higher quality dryer that will make your hair softer and healthier. It will also dry your hair quicker.
The best hairstyles for each face shape
Round face shape. Increase facial angularity because one of the downsides to having a round face is not having structure. A round face is a bit softer, so choose a hairstyle to enhance its angularity. Choose a hairstyle that has more weight or volume on the top to elongate the face. Go with shorter, tapered sides to help create the visual illusion of more structure to your head. If you have a hairstyle that has sharp angles or a lot of texture, it will help offset and balance a round face. Contrast is what it boils down to.
- The classic pompadour is a great option. Cut it shorter on the sides, adding structure, and a bit higher on the top to visually elongate your face, making it look narrower and thinner.
- Another option is the classic side part with tapered sides. The offset side part will add asymmetry to your face, drawing your eye up and over. The tapered sides add balance. A bit of fringe or bangs will help camouflage your face’s roundness.
- The textured crop with the high fade is also perfect for round faces. The tapered sides (faded and high) with the textured top add interest and balance, elongating the face visually.
- Add facial hair, but the secret is to taper it. If you have facial hair with a round face, a big and bushy style accentuate the roundness. Take it short & tight and blend it to your sides to avoid a hard line. Gradually taper it or fade it down to the chin, which should be slightly longer than the hair on the cheeks.
Square face. A square face has crazy angles and a very strong and structured appearance. Offset those with the softness of a hairstyle by opting for longer or more flowy styles to elongate the face and soften some hard angles. Instead of a rigid or structured hairstyle, choose something softer and with textured layers. Grow your hair a bit longer to contrast & balance to this face shape.
- The old money side part will be epic. It’s longer, not so tight or faded on the sides, and flows. With the side part, you can push it back to be more professional. You can also have fringe or bangs to add more softness.
- The bro flow is amazing for a structured face. With the bro flow waves, the hairstyle has natural volume and texture to be a bit softer and complement and contrast the squareness of the face.
- Center-part curtains is also another great option for this face shape. Old-money aesthetic hairstyles will look incredible because of their structure, squareness, and softness. The center part curtain will soften everything, but it shouldn’t be too pencil-straight. You need a definition, layers, and possibly some razoring.
- If you want to go with something shorter, the French crop will work as long as there’s texture up top and bangs are pulled down onto the forehead. Don’t go super tight or super high. I recommend leaving hair slightly longer on the sides to make the style rounder and softer.
- Don’t shave your head because this will accentuate the structure and squareness of your face. You could go for a crew cut, leaving a little hair on top and tapering the sides to round everything out visually. Adding facial hair with a crew cut is even better. Facial hair helps balance the face and draws the eye down.
- Growing chin hair a bit longer than the cheeks will also draw the eye down and eliminate the illusion of a square face.
Upside-down triangle. This face shape is wider at the top and drops down to a pointy chin. You’ll need softness.
- Curtains will help make the forehead less noticeable and help balance the face shape.
- The bro flow and the classic side part are a great option. Add a bit of fringe to help camouflage the size of the forehead.
- Textured fringe is another amazing option. Whether you want to go super tight or a high fade is a personal preference.
- A messy fringe will look incredible and help camouflage the forehead. It’ll also add texture and softness.
- Add facial hair to look even better. Allow it to be one length and a bit puffier in the cheek area to round out the jaw. Do not grow a beard that is tapered or pointy because that will accentuate the shape of the face.
Oval face shape. This face shape can rock any style and looks amazing as long as the hair texture and style work correctly. The face shape has amazing symmetry built into the structure of the face. If you want a more angular hairstyle, that’s great. You could also have a softer hairstyle as well.
