24 Items a Classy Man NEVER Wears

September 6, 2026
Looking classy isn’t about spending a ton of money, wearing designer clothes, or jumping on every trend. It’s about fit, simplicity, quality, and timeless style.

Classy style is more about subtraction than addition. You don’t need louder clothes, more accessories, crazier shoes, or the latest trends. Wear clothes that fit your body, keep your shoes and clothing clean, invest in timeless pieces, choose quality over gimmicks, and understand that understated almost always looks more sophisticated. Looking classy isn’t about getting everybody to notice what you’re wearing—it’s about looking so effortlessly put together that they notice you.

A classy guy looks polished without looking like he’s trying too hard. Sometimes the easiest way to understand classy style is to talk about what you should stop wearing. Here are the items I believe classy guys avoid.

STOP Wearing These! Wardrobe Items That Make You Look Unclassy

  1. Comfort dress shoes — You know the ones: business on top, running shoe on the bottom. Comfortable? Maybe. Classy? Nope.
  2. Fake leather — Whether we’re talking shoes, boots, belts, or jackets, synthetic fake leather generally doesn’t have the sophisticated look of the real thing.
  3. Outrageous, attention-seeking shoes — I don’t care how expensive or designer they are. If your shoes are screaming, “LOOK AT ME!” they’re probably not classy.
  4. Dirty, scuffed, or inappropriate shoes — Your footwear should be clean, maintained, and appropriate for your outfit and the situation.
  5. Skinny, overly distressed, embellished, or dad jeans — Skip the butt bling, crazy distressing, extreme skinny fits, and sloppy silhouettes.
  6. Baggy, poorly fitting pants — Pants shouldn’t be swimming around your body, puddling at your ankles, or pulling because they’re too tight.
  7. Oversized, trendy silhouettes — Trends come and go. Classic proportions and clothing that actually fit your body will always look better.
  8. Shiny synthetic suits — Cheap-looking polyester, super-thin lapels, and trendy details can date a suit quickly. I’d rather wear something classic that looks great today and ten years from now.
  9. Too much suit bling — Cufflinks, tie bar, lapel pin, elaborate pocket square—easy, killer! You don’t need everything at once.
  10. Party and club shirts — Those shiny, flashy “going-out” shirts aren’t giving you sophisticated style.
  11. Gimmicky hats — Beanies worn purely for style, goofy fedoras, or hats that dominate your outfit aren’t helping. A classic hat or baseball cap can work in the right situation, but it shouldn’t become your entire personality.
  12. Bad hairpieces — If you’re losing your hair and it bothers you, explore your options instead of covering it with an unnatural-looking toupee.
  13. Homemade cutoff tank tops — Cutting the sides out of an old T-shirt usually exposes way more than you think and rarely looks polished.
  14. Skin-tight performance shirts as casual wear — Athletic clothing has its place, but super-tight synthetic shirts aren’t exactly screaming sophistication.
  15. Cheap-looking undershirt-style tanks — A proper, well-fitting tank can actually look incredible under a jacket or overshirt with linen pants. It’s all about choosing the right one and styling it intentionally.
  16. Goofy graphic T-shirts and novelty clothing — Funny shirts, crazy ties, novelty socks—if your clothing is trying to tell the joke, I’m probably not laughing.
  17. White ankle socks and loud novelty socks — Go with no-shows or understated socks that complement your outfit instead.
  18. Stained, ripped, offensive, or worn-out shirts — Classy starts with being clean and presentable.
  19. Super-long T-shirts — Your shirt shouldn’t be hanging halfway down your thighs and covering your entire crotch.
  20. Deep V-necks — Give me a clean crew neck instead. Simple, masculine, timeless.
  21. Too much jewelry — Tons of rings and accessories create visual clutter. When it comes to classic style, less is more.
  22. Oversized, extreme glasses or sunglasses — I prefer timeless styles like Clubmasters, aviators, and Wayfarers. They’ve been stylish forever for a reason.
  23. Body spray — If you want to smell sophisticated, upgrade to a quality fragrance.
  24. Too much fragrance — Gentlemen, nobody should smell you from across the airport. Your fragrance should be subtle enough that somebody notices it when they’re close—not so strong that they’re looking for an emergency exit.

Hair loss usually happens gradually—more hair in the shower, a receding hairline, or hair that looks thinner and less full. One of the biggest factors behind male pattern hair loss is DHT, a hormone that can shrink hair follicles and produce thinner, weaker strands over time.

DHT Defense Shampoo is formulated specifically for thinning hair and receding hairlines. With saw palmetto, pumpkin seed extract, pygeum, rosemary, biotin, and caffeine, it helps support a healthier scalp while strengthening and conditioning fine, fragile hair.

It also removes excess oil and buildup that can weigh hair down. No shampoo can magically restore a receding hairline, but DHT Defense can help create a healthier foundation for hair that looks thicker, fuller, stronger, and healthier.
