Just because you’re young and look good doesn’t mean that your testosterone levels are where they need to be—quite the opposite. A lot of research demonstrates that testosterone levels start to drop at younger and younger ages.
At about the age of 30, most of the guys have testosterone levels dropping at about 1% per year. At around 40 years old, it starts to drop even quicker, and by 45, you’re losing 2 to 3% of your total testosterone level every single year.
I want to break this video up into three parts: explaining why our testicles are not producing testosterone like they used to, reviewing warning signs, and discussing natural ways to help produce more hormones. On a side note, a lot of guys think that because their testosterone level is low, they automatically should jump on taking TRT. The truth is that many lifestyle modifications can naturally boost your testosterone levels.
Why are testosterone levels dropping?
- Testosterone levels drop naturally as part of the aging process. However, you can reverse this, which I’ll discuss later in the video.
- Another reason they drop is because we’re fat as a society. We’re lazy and eating a bunch of crappy food that is composed of chemicals. Body fat converts testosterone into estrogen, and when estrogen is high, testosterone gets suppressed.
- Men are becoming more sedentary and do not move like they used to. Instead of hunting for food, we’re getting it delivered by Uber Eats. We’re also not as active as we should be.
- We also need to get out into the sunshine for vitamin D, which affects testosterone.
- Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are among the biggest offenders for destroying testosterone. They’re in everything from hair products to body washes to deodorants. Deodorants also include aluminum, which has been linked to brain disorders like Alzheimer’s and dementia. Many talc products are also horrible for the body and can contribute to cancer. For natural deodorant and talc, check out Pete & Pedro.
- Consumption of alcohol has been on the rise, which also contributes to lower testosterone levels. Specifically, beer is the offender because it has hops, a phytoestrogen or a plant-based estrogen. When you drink a lot, your estrogen levels will increase.
- Marijuana usage also is linked to decreasing testosterone levels. Marijuana will also affect fertility.
Signs that your testosterone levels are low
- Reduction of sex drive. If you’re not feeling interested or not feeling it, it’s not normal. Sometimes, you might not be in the mood, but if this is a common occurrence, you must check your testosterone levels.
- Unable to get erections. If you can’t get it up, that’s a sign that something is wrong. Have your testosterone levels checked along with blood pressure and cholesterol. Testosterone is correlated with nitric oxide, which dilates or relaxes the blood vessels. It can help to make you rock solid, so if you’re not having hard erections, something is going on. It’s most likely your testosterone levels.
- If your testicles are shrinking or you feel like they’re not as full as they used to be, your testosterone level may be low.
- If your semen level is lower than it used to be, this is also another sign of low testosterone.
- If you regularly go to the gym but are having difficulty gaining muscle mass, your testosterone level could be on the decline.
- Man boobs and love handles are signs that testosterone levels have fallen. You need to get it boosted back up.
- The inability to recall quickly or misplacing things regularly could indicate your testosterone level is dropping.
- Difficulty sleeping soundly is another warning sign.
- Crazy mood swings are also another sign. If you’re angry or depressed, sad or bummed, this is not normal. You need to feel energetic and excited. Your testosterone level control so many different aspects of your life, get it checked.
- Hair loss is associated with lowering testosterone levels. If you experience hair loss on any part of your body, get it checked. You can get a blood test to determine exactly what’s going on. I firmly believe that everybody should get blood work done around age 30 because you need to have a baseline.
How to naturally boost your testosterone
- Exercise. Daily exercise can keep your testosterone levels in check, especially when lifting heavy weights. You should focus on three big lifts: squats, deadlifts, and bench press. Your body will release more testosterone
- Supplementation. Vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, and L-carnitine will naturally boost testosterone levels.
- Don’t eat crap. The cleaner you can eat, the better your body will look, and the better your testicles will produce testosterone.
